Pets and Motion Detectors - Do They Really Work Together?
For the most part, yes, a motion detector will work with pets. But, there are limitations. The motion detector works by projecting a "beam" accross a given area. Using it with a pet in mind, it is aimed above the height of the pet. They come in a couple of models. The different models are supposed to be for pets of different sizes. How they work differently is by having a zone of detection that is aimed higher than the pet, thus, different models will accommodate larger pets. The problem is that if any animal (cats are especially prone to do this) jumps up into the area the beam is projected, the system will go off. So, with cats, if they have access to where a motion detector is aimed, you will probably experience false alarms. Also, with dogs or any animals, the systems are not always full-proof.
