Two or More Story Homes
For homes that have more than two stories and the windows are high enough off the ground to not be easily accessed, there are a number of considerations concerning window contacts for monitored security systems. For a number of years, many people have saved money by not having contacts put in. They figure that burglars won't make the effort to climb up and break in. Well, don't be too sure and don't leave any ladders laying around. Criminals do travel light for the most part and use items people leave laying around. Don't think that because they are thieves, that they are dumb. It is a good idea to put ladders inside the garage or lock them to a permanent fixture if left outside. For those who do not put contacts in their upper story windows, they sometimes use these specialized "pins" that you can purchase from home supply stores. These items are easy to install and do not cost much. But, they need a special device to remove them once installed. Make sure that the devices that are used to open the windows are near-by in case of fire. But, remember that even if you have window contacts, the glass can still be broken or removed without opening the window itself. The most secure homes have contacts in the upper windows as well as glass break detectors in certain areas as well as fire, smoke and CO2 detectors upstairs.
